It should be angled down slightly at the drain end. If you have a down spout at both ends, you can leave it level.

What’s an easy and inexpensive way to stop rain gutters from leaking at the seams?

    5

Question by kapustafooz: What’s an easy and inexpensive way to stop rain gutters from leaking at the seams?
I thought there’d be some kind if gutter sealant in the hardware store, but when I went there to inquire, the guy said they didn’t carry any, and besides they don’t work that well. Any opinions on this or suggestions about repairs?

    Answer by sortaclarksville
Try a thin layer of roofing tar on the inside of the gutter at the seams (would be pretty ugly if you put it on the outside).

Question by maisher81: what is the best way to fix this problem?
after it rains out build up next to our house and on the sidewalks, I know the side walks are needing to be slightly slanted the other way so water runs away from the house, that is one problem. Between the house and sidewalk is about a foot of grass that gets flooded also. what is the best way to get that to go away from the house. what kind of fill would be best under the sidewalk to slant it, and would I just do a tarp and crushed rock next to the house with a little bit of slant to keep the water away from the house? please help

    Answer by Bowie
Do you have rain gutters with at least 4 foot extensions on your house? If not, they would help get the water away from the house. But there will always be some water collecting in the low spots when it rains.

Will foam gutter inserts work with a steel roof?

    3

Question by K: Will foam gutter inserts work with a steel roof?
Will foam gutter inserts work effectively in the winter with a steel roof? I am referring to products such as gutterstuff, rainfilter, etc. I am apprehensive when it comes to the snow and ice sliding off my metal roof in the winter. Will the product stop the snow from passing threw the gutters and tear my gutters completely off due to the weight of the snow? I live in an area that gets hit with winter storms every year.

    Any advice?

No, It is designed to stop leaves and other debris from clogging your eavestrouphing. It is not designed to stop snow and ice buildup.

What I should be aware of?

Higher a gutter company to do the job. They can install seamless gutters for less then you can buy all the parts youself. It isn’t the safest job for a home owner to tackle either.

I marked the spot then put a screw in the bottom hole. From there I would drill it in and Move on down! I found the bottom hole was easier to work with when aligning the devices.

Is there something wrong with my Rain Gutter (PICTURES)?

    1

Question by BS9999: Is there something wrong with my Rain Gutter (PICTURES)?
Here are 3 pictures of my rain gutter. The 3 pictures are from me taking it from underneath looking upward. This rain gutter is pitches and i am wondering is the pitch too great? The entire distance for the run is 28 feet and it is a single gutter that runs all the entire distance to a single downspout at the end…So the slant looks unusual…if u think it looks wrong please let me know:

1st Pic – Notice the gap between the gutter and the board it rests on..is that normal?: http://hidebehind.com/89669B

2nd Pic – Notice how high it rides on above the board..is that normal..and notice the gap?: http://hidebehind.com/520F2E

3rd Pic – Notice the gap running along the far left towards the middle..is that normal?: http://hidebehind.com/892D24

To me it looks as tho it needs to be attached to wood of house. Contact a handyman to reattach it for you, but check his references before he does any work and maybe check with better business bureau too.
If you’re not afraid of heights and are handy maybe you can reattach gutter yourself, but use galvanized screws so they don’t rust and cause rust streaks to run down side of house in a year from now. If the gutters are new, get the company who installed them to come out and fix it.
